More teasers from John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band

We are being treated to teasers for the upcoming John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band 50th Anniversary release. From before we got Ultimate mixes with music videos of “Mother” and “Look at me”, plus a studio jam over “It’ll Be Me“. Now we are getting an “Evolution mix” of “Instant Karma (We all shine on)”.

THE EVOLUTION MIXES – DOCUMENTARY
The Evolution Mixes are mini-documentaries that explore the development of each song through their elements, arrangements and the musicians that play on them. Edited down from all the original 8-track multitracks, quarter-inch live recordings and mixes and a few demo cassettes by Sam Gannon, generally each Evolution Mix runs through each song’s sessions chronologically, starting with the demos and/or early takes and ending with the final mixes; documenting their creative journey from inspiration to finished work, exploring different, sometimes hidden parts of the multitracks and including all the best method, magic, craftsmanship and conversation during the development of the songs. Throughout the sessions, there is a sense of lightness and joviality that contrasts the heavy and, at times, very intense themes which run through much of the album. These mixes provide a window into that world, putting the listener in the center of the studio with John, Yoko, Phil and the Plastic Ono Band.

In the new evolution release of “Instant Karma” we can also hear George Harrison joining in on the studio conversation. This mix has been put together by ten takes from the multitrack tapes, and the musicians are John Lennon, George Harrison, Klaus Voormann, Billy Preston and Alan White. Phil Spector and Yoko Ono are also present. The recording session was held on the 27th of January, 1970, in Studio Three, EMI Studios in Abbey Road, London.

Previously we have been treated to Evolution mixes of “Imagine”, “Jealous Guy” and “Crippled Inside” i 2018, plus an “Evolution documentary” about “Imagine” in connection with the DeLuxe boxed set release of the “Imagine”-album.

Here then, is the new music video for “Look at me”, with the audio being an “Ultimate mix”. Amateur and behind-the-scenes footage, previously unseen has been used on the visual side:

In connection with last year’s DeLuxe boxed set “GIMME SOME TRUTH” we also did get some clips from “John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band”. Here is a YouTube-page with links to everything released so far in this playlist.

The anniversary editions of  John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band were due to be released March 4, but have been further delayed until April 23.

I always thought “Nobody Told Me” was similar in construction to “Instant Karma!”. But, I was shocked to hear the guitar run heard in “Nobody Told Me” was actually part of the early version of “Instant Karma!” as well! I had no idea the two songs actually were related! Very fascinating.
