Today, the new editions of the John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band album is due out. Also nicknamed “Sgt Lennon”, the album became much more appreciated in hindsight than at the time. Variety has a great interview with bass guitarist Klaus Voormann, who talks about the recording sessions.
The audio content is close to seven and a half hours in length, and while still waiting for the physical discs, we have to admit that we leapt to the jam session “disc” on Spotify.
Speaking of the jam session segment, John is doing a few Carl Perkins songs, and someone responsible for listing composer credits haven’t done their homework and mistook Perkins’ “Glad All Over” for the song of the same title by Dave Clark 5.

Sgt Lennon? Never heard that before. Who referred to it as that?

I’m sorry, but that error in misattributing Glad All Over’s credits is unforgivable, given that this has not exactly been a rushed project.
I wonder if Dave Clark and Mike Smith’s estate actually get the royalties?!? Of course they shouldn’t but having been given a worldwide credit that might be an interesting legal question…
I hadn’t heard the Sgt Lennon comment before – great title given that musically it’s the absolute opposite in style with its minimalist arrangements. My favourite JL record and great to have Yoko doing her thing all over us in 5:1 in the box set. (I think that’s on there isn’t it? My copy is yet to arrive.)
