The Lennons with Wings in concert
Two sensational letters from the Lennons to Paul and Linda McCartney, inviting Wings to participate in concerts planned by the couple were posted on social media today. The letters are also presented in the hardcover book in the upcoming “Power to the People” DeLuxe boxed set, due out October 10.
John & Yoko wrote to Paul and Linda (as Sonny and Cher O’Lennon) asking them to join Plastic Ono Band and The Rolling Stones for a charity concert at Madison Square Garden to support Ireland in lieu of them both just having written Irish-supporting singles (left, Feb 1972) and then later to play at the One To One concert in support of the Willowbrook children (right, Aug 1972).
Here’s the text from the first:
Right on brothers and sister!
Now what do we do with “The Luck of the Irish”!? and “Sunday Bloody Sunday”!?
Would you do a Madison Square qds. with Wings – Plastic Ono + Stones?! – we’ve already talked to Mick!! (it’s easy)
also in three weeks actually go to Ireland (again possibly with Stones!) Let’s forget our past and save some people!
Good luck anyway, we’re proud of you – love Sony+Cher O’Lennon.P.S. No A.K (presumable Allen Klein) at MSG if it’s uncool.
And the second:
Also, guy from Paul Krassner’s office needs check.
To Paul + Linda with Wings.
Wanna spread your Wings at Madison Square Garden on the 30th of Aug. for retarded children and laffs.
(guaranteed not to split)
Your pot news is hot news
Chance of a lifetime.
No Klein.
Love John andYoko
Revelatory. “Let’s forget our past and save some people!” “No AK at MSG if it’s uncool.” John **was** willing to bury the hatchet and get together with Paul, even if it meant telling Klein to back off. What was Paul’s response? Will Paul comment on these now? Did Wings not playing impact John’s later refusal to get together with Paul?
“No Klein” mentioned in both artefacts
,,”your pot news is hot news”…………. funny!!
In french, “magnifique”
You could have ever imagined this ? I’m touched, so suprised, it’s wonderful
We have seen these before, haven’t we? Somehow this has a familiar ring
Sonny and Cher O’Lennon. That’s why he is my favorite!
