Hello Goodbye video instructions

An instruction sheet for the shooting of one of the “Hello Goodbye” videos has come to light.

Memorabilia specialists “Tracks” has for sale at the moment a sheet of hand written editing notes with instructions regarding the shooting of two of the “Hello Goodbye” music videos. Directed by Paul at the Saville theatre, these are performance videos, with The Beatles in 1) their every day clothes, and 2) Sgt. Pepper uniforms, miming to the song.

Tracks describes the paper: An incredibly rare handwritten instruction sheet for the filming of The Beatles music video ‘Hello Goodbye’. The video was produced by Paul McCartney and was shot in November 1967. The title ‘HELLO GOODBYE’ and the drawings at the top of the sheet are all in the hand of John Lennon. Lines 1 – 1 to 2 – 4 are all in the hand of John Lennon, lines 2 – 5 and 2 – 6 are in the hand of George Harrison, line 2 – 7 is in the hand of Mal Evans. Various parts of the song’s lyrics are also handwritten within the sheet. The sheet measures 19.95cm x 26.9cm (7.85 inches x 10.5 inches). Slightly trimmed on the bottom edge. The condition is very good plus.

The instruction sheet reads as follows:

1 – 4 CU J. then R. (you say yes) (chorus bit middle 8). it ran out

1 – 5 medium C. U. P. + G pan to R. + J. back etc P + G: all except end

1 – 6 C. U. G. (chorus bit.) ducks out shots Right then ‘I say yes but’ etc.

1 – 7 C. U. P. (R. in back) whole song

1 – 8 L. S end with girls with curtain

1 -9 closer shot in P. G. R with girls but over J. curtain

1 – 10 above scene shot. girls head out out at beginning J. curtain

1 – 11 curtain down opens at start of sing. P waving and pointing etc. finish half way

2 – 1 Sgt. Pepper. curtain open M. S. whole song nubits

2 – 2 L. S. with girls. end bit.

2 – 3 M. C. U. end bit with girls

2 – 4 C. U. P. G. main curtain cuts to Ringo solo + J J doing Elvis pans back to P G

2 – 5 side shot/+ slightly angled from right – all 4 quite straight till solo – J + P jump a bit end verse after solo

2 – 6 close up G. focus pull from G. to R. (Hello Goodbye chorus) stays on R. for solo

2 – 7 MCS RINGO. SMILES
