High in the clouds – Ringo joins in
Based on Paul McCartney and Philip Ardagh’s book “High in the clouds” from 2005, illustrated by Geoff Dunbar, an animated feature film was announced as planned for, in 2013.
Nothing came of these plans, save for McCartney writing and recording songs for the project, until French animation company Gaumont picked up the gauntlet a couple of years ago, and the 3D animated film is under production and planned for release in 2027. Gaumont is handling the film together with partner 88 Films.
As you can see from the poster depicted above, a host of stars are lending their voices to the characters in the film, and especially one Starr is a welcome addition for us fans.
Here is the voicecast:
Himesh Patel (from the movie “Yesterday”) : Wirral, the main character
Céline Dion : Sugartail
Hannah Waddingham : Gretsch
Paul McCartney : McKenzie
Idris Elba : Barrel
Lionel Richie : Gladstone
Ringo Starr : Roy
Jimmy Fallon (host of The Tonight Show) : Froggo
Clémence Poésy (from “Harry Potter”) : Doris
Pom Klementieff (from “Mission : Impossible – The Final Reckoning”) : Mina
Alain Chabat (from “Night at the Museum”) : Bigsby
Independent filmmaker of animated films, Toby Genkel directs, with a script written by Jon Crocker. Michael Giacchino, known for films like “Ratatouille”, “Up”, “Inside Out” and “Coco” is writing the incidental music, and of course Paul McCartney has written the songs. A soundtrack album is expected.
The film is produced by Paul McCartney (MPL Communications), Robert Shaye and Michael Lynne (UniqueFeatures), and by Sidonie Dumas, Nicolas Atlan and Terry Kalagian for Gaumont, in partnership with MPL Communications, Michele Anthony and David Blackman for Polygram Entertainment, Lemoko Investments, Sky and James L. Nederlander Productions.
Gaumont has sold distribution rights to a number of countries and territories already.

Macca should stick to re-issues (i.e. something that the fans actually want). Where are London Town and Back To The Egg?
What happened to Lady Gaga? After shrouding it in secrecy for several months, Paul McCartney and Lady Gaga have shared a few details regarding their recently recorded duet.
Deadline reports that the song is one of “seven or eight” new McCartney recordings slated for inclusion in the soundtrack to High in the Clouds, a 3D animated movie based on his 2005 children’s book of the same name. While the report doesn’t name any of the songs, it describes the Gaga collaboration as “a rollicking tune” and adds that McCartney will voice one of the characters.

Lady Gaga was mentioned with a photo shown. When this film was first mentioned. As her name is not mentioned in characters for the film.
Any idea if her songs with Paul have been ommited?
While I agree about London Town & Back To The Egg.
I’ve, no objection to this. Tropic Island Hum was brilliant.
Soundtrack album will be nice too.
She may still sing a song, even if she is not mentioned doing a character voice. At least, that’s our take.
Love this kind of news. Artists create stuff and as long as they have not been published, their agent should keep on pitching their works… Love this… It also makes sense how Paul augments his work to Beatles’ releases (e.g. the Mendes bio-pics), extra pr and marketing, free of charge….
One of the things that made/makes The Beatles so great as a group and individually was the fact they catered to all age groups and this is great news, not just for kids, but for us older fans too.
I would prefer that he released new music and returned with the Archive series.
