Paul and Paul and George

Little Paul and big Paul chatting

Paul Simon opened and Paul McCartney closed Sunday’s Gala concert for the Saturday Night Live 50 celebrations. Here they are, chatting on stage after the show.

Paul Simon’s opener was his “Homeward Bound”, which he performed together with young singer Sabrina Karpenter. “I sang this on Saturday Night Live together with George Harrison,” Simon reminisced. “I wasn’t born then,” Carpenter replied, “and neither were my parents!”.

Here are the two performances of “Homeward Bound”. First the one from last Sunday:

ant then the one with George from 1976.

Both videos are brilliant. Thank you for posting them.

I can’t watch present day Paul Simon or Art Garfunkel without thinking of the track “Old Friends”, in which they imagine being old men – “how terribly strange to be seventy”. Well, Paul, you’re both 83 now, I think 70 probably sounds less strange now…

It would be nice to see the “Bye Bye Love” rehearsal from that episode (that wasn’t shown) if it was filmed.
