Maybe it’s just me, but if there was any interest outside the US in the US LPs, I’d have thought it would be in Yesterday And Today (alternative I’m Only Sleeping mixes) and Rubber Soul (I’m Looking Through You false start). But those aren’t even here. I’m perfectly happy to “make do” with the CD sets of these. They’re £39.99 each on HMV, and of course there’s an HMV-exclusive blue vinyl version of Meet The Beatles. And it’s £239.99 for the boxset. I’m not complaining: this isn’t a travesty or a tragedy; it’s just someone hoping to sell me some stuff. And in a funny kind of a way I’m really happy, because I don’t want it and I genuinely wouldn’t buy it at half the price, so I suppose I’m £200 or more better off.

    Nothing on Rubber Soul?

  3. William Campbell says:

So five songs on ‘Something New’ were already on the ‘Hard Day’s Night Soundtrack’ from the month before? Maybe it should have been called, ‘Half An Album Of Something New’ instead.

  4. William Campbell says:

So we’ll have fully analogue releases of albums that most of the world consider ‘abominations.’

But we don’t have any recent fully analogue stereo vinyl releases of the original albums. All we have are the stereo vinyl versions produced from digital sources, as well as the dull sounding mono releases.

It’s amazing how many LPs the US companies were able to squeeze out in one year. Granted they had a backlog of LPs, singles and EPs to pull from. Granted, The Beatles Story was a flagrant ripoff. As was The Early Beatles which was still available on Vee Jay.

  6. Jim says:

I don’t understand releasing this set when other more important projects could be released like the continuing anniversary box sets of their albums (Let it Be to Revolver so far). Makes no sense to me.

  7. Kevin says:

Ay de mi! “The Beatles Story” was the last “original” Beatles LP I added to my collection (this was in 1973 and the album was an Apple-label issue) and by far the only disappointing one. It was a ripoff then and still is today, however much of a curiosity it might be.

  8. Alfredo says:

I’m sorry for US fans who grew up knowing the Beatles through this catalogue, but Apple should have probably tried to erase those from the official canon, once and forever. If you mix The Lord of the Rings chapters and sell it for your own market, you (the original Author) don’t want to still highlight that abomination after all those years…

Oh I don’t know, Meet The Beatles with it’s opening of I wanna Hold Your Hand, I Saw Here Standing There and This Boy makes for an unforgettable “hello”. And The Beatles Second Album is still a powerful dose of Rock & Roll. Both bring back good memories of my childhood.

  9. Karl Egil Stubsjøen says:

Why is Help not among these albums?

  10. Kurt says:

The pricing for the box set makes no sense. The Beatles Story is hardly worth the extra cash, and the box along is not worth the much higher cost spread across all the albums.
