The Hurricanes and a Butlin redcoat

During a now ended Tracks auction, the above photo was for sale. It’s a photo we hadn’t seen before, taken on the 15th of July 1962 at the Butlins Holiday Camp. The photo depicts the resident rock and roll group The Hurricanes, minus their lead singer Rory Storm, but with a Butlins “redcoat”, the hosts of the camp.

Ringo Starr has handwritten “Butlins 15/7/62” on the reverse in black ballpoint pen.

Just over a month later, Ringo would leave the group to become a beatle.
