| Does the SHM-CD format bring some extra texture to the music? |
One of our readers has alerted us to the fact that on October 28, George Harrison’s individual titles which were in the Apple Years box are all being released in Japan as SHM (Super High Material) CDs. This comes hot-on-the-heels of other news reports about SHM-CDs from John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Since the SHM-CDs conform to the CD redbook standard, we are in doubt whether the use of a different coating material will do anything for the quality of the music.
A great mystery and great research. Better than every "whodunit" film. I absolutely love it when something that everybody has believed to be common wisdom for so long is suddenly called into question. Great entertainment. Thanks a lot! Andreas

On the SHM topic, I think the imprtant thing for any buyer of rational mind to consider is that the onus of proof for claims of superior listening experience is on the claimants.
Of course, you won't find any manufacturers of SHM claiming such a thing because they'd end up in court.
Therefore SHM-afficianados stand as 'experts' unsupported by anyone except record companies.
What a coinicidence, given the incredible premium attached to SHM!
