New range of Beatles albums for June 25th?

Mystery releases on Amazon UK

A series of Beatles albums have appeared on listings over at Amazon in the UK, all with a release date of June 25th.

It seems to be the regular UK albums, along with the red and blue album, Past Masters and “1”.  As a sample, here’s one such listing: Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts’ Club Band.

All are described as audio CD’s, so it’s not the awaited mono vinyls. It could be that the regular ones are now stripped for mini-documentaries, but it doesn’t explain “1“, for one thing.

Here’s a list from Amazon.

They are japanese imports. According to CD Japan they are limited releases at a special price to tie in with the special Japan Albums box released at the same time.
They will be the same as the currently available albums except for a different obi strip.

Ok great, thanks for explaining that! Remains to see who would bother to order these in the UK, I guess!

I guess then that the McCartney archives have been postponed? A month to go and there's been no hints of the releases from MPL.

I was hoping that they would be(up to The White Album) both mono and stereo versions in one CD package: Like Rhino did with The Bee Gees and Monkees albums, and the recent Small Faces reissues…. Fat chance though, eh?

Why pay that much extra for an obi strip? I know a lot of stuff was released with the Anthology CDs, but there must be more… How about Apple doing what Zeppelin are doing with their first three albums? Or a Pepper boxset, like that Pet Sounds one?

If they're in the mini album format I'll be getting 'Yellow Submarine', 'Abbey Road and 'Let It Be'. I have the Mono Remasters CD box and the U.S. Albums CD box. Some will see the logic in my choices. Some won't. Lol

Hmmm. At the price suggested on Amazon, one would be expecting them to be much more than just the Japanese versions…

If you calculate the price purchased from CD Japan they work out at about £11 each. If HMCS gets out of bed the wrong side they'll add 20% and then the Post Office will add a surcharge of £8.00 for the pleasure of administrating HMCS' customs charges… so, if you bought them direct from CD Japan and not Amazon the most you would end up paying would be around £21.20 – that's around £10 cheaper than Amazon are asking. If HMCS can't be arsed on the day you'd end up[ paying around £13.50 inclusive of shipping from Japan. Bargain.
