Penny Lane controversy

Contrary to public opinion, the street “Penny Lane” in Liverpool was likely NOT named after James Penny, the anti-abolitionist and slave merchant who was said to have defended slave trade to the British Parliament. However, this has not deterred vandals who have failed to read up on the subject from defacing the famous street sign.
Our neighbourhood blog, Beatles Liverpool Locations will set you straight on the subject matter.
A hooligan is a violent trouble-maker. Someone spraying a bit of paint on a sign, motivated by a moral cause, is not a hooligan. Even if they're wrong.
They're also going to remove any references of colour, so start getting used to the songs "Submarine" and "Bird", as well as the 1968 album called "The Album"!
Let's hope they don't change gender-specific titles too. Any suggestions for "Girl", "Woman", "Mr. Moonlight", etc? ; )
George Floyd is Bigger as Beatles oh blasphemia

Popper: I changed it to vandals.
If these knee jerk idiots weren't so thick, they'd have researched where the name came from. It's not hard, unless you're stupid, that is.
This lunacy is one step away from book burning. One can imagine the Beatles legacy being censored in case it 'offends' the ever so easily offended.
'BLEEP' bird singing in the dead of night.
Is there anybody going to listen to my story. All about the 'BLEEP' who came to stay?
Oh dear, what Can I do? Baby's in 'BLEEP' and I'm feeling blue.
Everybody's got something to hide, except for me and my 'BLEEEP'.
And of course… 'BLEEP' Lane is in my ears and in my eyes.
And someone spraying paint on a sign is a vandal. End of.
The world is going mad.
Maybe the "mostly peaceful" protesters will go after all Mosques next since Muhammad owned, bought, and sold slaves.
All the official accounts for the Beatles are supporting BLM and none have mentioned this graffiti as being anything to challenge or fret about. I'm With The Beatles. In times of change there will always be a few mis-steps so if the graffiti is a mis-step it will eventually be cleaned up and if it's targeted correctly then a good point will have been made but no one will have died. Black people die at the hands of the police in disproportionate numbers – surely that is more important than a bit of graffiti?
Probably someone from the BLM movement
Thank you for your sharing. I am worried that I lack creative ideas. It is your article that makes me full of hope. Thank you. But, I have a question, can you help me?
