Unhappy McCartney customers
From the super deluxe edition “Tug of War” |
Paul McCartney’s newest Archives releases, “Tug of War” and “Pipes of Peace” have hit record stores and all’s fine. Not quite. People all over the world, mainly in Europe, are complaining that their Macca pre-orders have not arrived, and the company dealing with them, King’s Road, are not answering e-mails or phone calls, one customer informed Wogblog.
Super DeLuxe edition “Tug of War” |
People have pre-ordered as long ago as 30th July, and paid in full at the time, but so far have not received any updates on their orders. And the company is not responding to e-mails or calls. They are the only company dealing with the Super Deluxe Edition of “Tug of War”. In many ways, this is exactly how orders received through the artist’s chosen business partners go. Professional online stores like Amazon deliver as quickly as stock gets in, but with these other operators, things don’t ever run so smoothly.
Still, a customer from Bristol managed to get through to King’s Road on the phone, Friday. He spoke to a person who said they are ‘wrapping up the orders’ (ie packaging them) at the moment.
She also said that as they have had so many McCartney orders, there may be a delay in issuing the shipping notification. One should think that they might have counted the pre-orders and started packing the items a little earlier than that.

The pictures from the package in this blog post were posted on the Steve Hoffman music corner forum by one happy customer, who had received his package.
There are a few mistakes in the books, which shouldn’t have slipped by, if knowledgeable proof readers had been employed. At one point, Lennon’s death is being mentioned as 1981, and elsewhere it’s said that “Tug of War” was the first collaboration of George Martin and McCartney since The Beatles. As we know, George Martin wrote the orchestral arrangements for the McCartneys’ “Ram” album (recorded by the New York Philharmonics), and also the arrangement for “Live and Let Die”.
Loving the typos!
Just like Macca saying in 2007 that the medley on 'Memory Almost Full' was his first since 'Abbey Road'. Clearly he was never a big fan of 'Red Rose Speedway' – which featured a medley in 1973…
But then I can forgive Macca his poor memory, there's a lot to remember!
I reached out to Kings Road today and got a pretty quick response with my tracking information. Sure enough, it was shipped Friday and should arrive today.
Not the case in Europe unfortunately. No response to 2 emails now. Or phone calls to Germany.
I ordered from the US Kings Road. My order is still stated as Shipping Soon. I sent an email on Monday. Yet to receive a response. Disappointing.
If you think that's bad, I ordered the Pizzarelli McCartney tribute album through King's Road because there's an added track on the digital version that comes with.
I got the CD shipped on the day of release, but the digital code never arrived. (It takes 10 days to get to Canada.) I had to e-mail and, a few days later, I got the link to download my cuts.
The digital e-mails should have gone out by batch the moment it hit release day…!
The new Tug Of War box also lists Ringo Starr as one of the drummers on Ballroom Dancing and Wanderlust. Of course, Ringo played on the Broadstreet versions of those two songs, but not the Tug Of War versions!
Thanks for posting something about it on your blog! It's quite reassuring in itself that I'm not the only one waiting for these. If only Kings Road had had the courtesy to keep us up to date …
I've ordered mine through cdon.com, and they're not arrived yet
This is absolutely the worst customer service I have ever seen. 3 days, several emails and calls, and no response.
Sort it out Kings Road.
Just got this:
We wanted to update you on your order for Paul McCartney's Tug of War Super Deluxe box set. Due to stock allocation from the label, your Tug of War Super Deluxe Box Set will be shipping from our European warehouse. The box set has been shipped via FedEx and will be delivered in 2-5 business days. We will send out tracking information for that package in the next 24-48 hours. Any other items you ordered are coming from our American warehouse as usual. We apologize for any inconvenience.
And then you get notice Pipes Of Peace is shipping without a tracking number. D'oh!
Just in:
We wanted to update you on your order for Paul McCartney's Tug Of War and/or Pipes Of Peace. Due to unforeseen circumstances we were not able to ship your order until now. The records came in later than expected which made it impossible for us to ship them in time. To avoid even longer delays our entire team is currently working in the warehouse to get your order shipped which is also the reason we're not able to respond to all the emails we receive. We'll update you with a shipping confirmation and tracking information once your order is on it's way!
We hope for your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience.
Best wishes,

So, they have my discs, but they haven't shipped yet…
At least they finally updated me.
Got my boxed sets today from cdon.com. They also informed me before the release date that they were expecting delays, so it wasn't a shock to me, and they also emailed me when the goods were shipped – so I'm happy with the information from them (and a great price).
Yesterday I got an email from King's Road to confirm that they have now shipped my order. From Germany. They say it should be here (in the UK) bu Friday.
If only they had sent that email helterskelter posted here sooner and to everybody involved, they would have made a much better impression! (and if they had spelled 'its' correctly :P)
I've not received any tracking numbers yet… my guess is that, at this rate, they will arrive before the numbers come to me. 😛
