Julian Lennon sings Imagine for Ukraine

Julian Lennon turned 59 yesterday, and took the opportunity to publish a video where he sings his father’s most famous song from the solo period, “Imagine”, accompanied by Nuno Bettencourt on guitar. The performance was used to draw attention to the victims of the war between Russia and Ukraine. Julian is also releasing his new album these days.

Julian has the following to say:

The War on Ukraine is an unimaginable tragedy…

As a human, and as an artist, I felt compelled to respond in the most significant way I could. So today, for the first time ever, I publicly performed my Dad’s song, IMAGINE.

Why now, after all these years? – I had always said, that the only time I would ever consider singing ‘IMAGINE’ would be if it was the ‘End of the World’…

But also because his lyrics reflect our collective desire for peace worldwide. Because within this song, we’re transported to a space, where love and togetherness become our reality, if but for a moment in time…

The song reflects the light at the end of the tunnel, that we are all hoping for…

As a result of the ongoing murderous violence, millions of innocent families, have been forced to leave the comfort of their homes, to seek asylum elsewhere.

I’m calling on world leaders and everyone who believes in the sentiment of IMAGINE, to stand up for refugees everywhere!

Please advocate and donate from the heart. #StandUpForUkraine

    A heretic’s view:
I am not sure whether ‘Imagine’ here is the appropriate world-vision. Beside religion, and free market capitalism for energy in Europe it is the desire to obliterate nation states on the Russian western front that drives Putin and his maddening crew in Ukraine. Among the maddening crowd I count the western promotors and those who understand how the West is responsible for Putin’s actions, and there are Beatles’ authors who promote(d) this point of view.
    Sad, so sad.

That’s a stupid backwards comment and the reason there are so many places that are in the predicament they are in. Your views are that of the dangerous 20% that ruin it for the rest of the world. Wake up. Eventually we will prevail against your damages, like always, History repeats itself. Russians are what they are and always have been. The West is the beacon of what Imagine can dream and speak of freely. That is sad

All of what you say is meaningless. Shut up rich boy!
