Man on the run to Film festival
The fifty-second Telluride Film Festival in Colorado (runs Friday, August 29 through Monday, September 1, 2025) have announced their programme, and lo and behold, Morgan Neville’s documentary on Paul McCartney gets its premiere Saturday. Here’s what the festival writes:
In one of the most surprising sequences yet seen in a music biography, Paul McCartney, then 28 years old, is fixing up a remote, dilapidated Scottish farmhouse. He tends to sheep, cuddles with his wife, Linda,
and their two little girls, and plays music in the barn into a four-track recorder. Morgan Neville (TWENTY FEET FROM STARDOM, WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR?, PIECE BY PIECE) offers a new take on one of history’s most documented humans, overturning much of what we’ve learned about Sir Paul (who served as executive producer). With full access to Paul’s journals, Linda’s wonderful photos and the notoriously evasive man himself (who sat for seven interviews), Neville provides a stirring, sharp-eyed and deeply pleasurable corrective to the standard McCartney narrative (no, he didn’t break up The Beatles!). We take a journey with a thoughtful, endlessly inventive soul who, post-Fab Four, challenged himself to grow.
The film runs 115 minutes and the director will be there in person.
Allen Klein broke up the Beatles. No one else.
No one else ? Really ? I think you might have overlooked a malign influence that pre dated Klein.
No doubt Yoko was supporting John during the pre-breakup acrimony. I suspect Linda was doing the same with Paul, and Pattie with George and Maureen with Ringo. The fact that Yoko was at John’s side during the heat of battle and sometimes getting too far into the group may have made her a factor, but not the cause, necessarily. But ultimately, if Klein had done what many attorneys would have done for the sake of the band, which was to step aside from the job due to fierce lack of agreement with his representation from a key member, it might have survived. Most of the remaining band members were determined to shove Klein down Paul’s throat during the heat of the battle. That was when the anger started the divorce.
McCartney’s version of events is VERY well documented. I would be very much surprised if this film/book will deviate in any way from the heavily trodden paths …
According to Deadline.com (https://deadline.com/2025/08/paul-mccartney-man-on-the-run-documentary-1236501591/):
Amazon MGM Studios has acquired Man on the Run, described as “an intimate feature documentary exploring Paul McCartney’s creative rebirth after The Beatles’ breakup.” Academy Award winner Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom) directs.
The documentary, which will premiere this weekend at the Telluride Film Festival, is the centerpiece of what Amazon MGM calls “a comprehensive new partnership among Paul McCartney, Universal Music Group, and Amazon that will unfold over the next year.” In addition to the doc, the partnership will include the release of exclusive music and merchandise from Amazon Music, and commentary from McCartney himself.
Wonder if this partnership will mean Paul’s first single from his new album that is expected next year would debut on Amazon Music?
Any thoughts on how this film might be available online?
It will be available on (Amazon) Prime Video in 240 countries worldwide, starting from February 25th, 2026. Before that, it will see a theatrical release.
Another record for Paul. There are 195 countries in the world. https://www.worldometers.info/geography/how-many-countries-are-there-in-the-world/ 🙂
They really need a Live Action “Band on the Run Movie. All the Characters featured in the Song would be in the Fim.
