Step Inside Love – upgrade

This is a significant upgrade of a version found on bootlegs in the seventies of Kenny Everett playing it on the radio. It’s a Dick James acetate, with Paul on all vocals and both guitars. Someone recorded it off air from Kenny’s show, and that’s the version we’ve had for all these years, in mediocre quality.
The uploader’s description:

“Gosh! That McCartney fellow is flippin’ brilliant!
Here’s a tape I was given, a million years ago, by a BBC film editor.
He was working with Cilla Black and she lent him a 7″ acetate disc, which he copied to quarter-inch mono tape.
It seems to be Paul, multi-tracked.
There are two guitar tracks, Paul’s vocal and some kneeslapping percussive effects. He probably threw this together in an odd half hour, and it still sounds wonderful nearly sixty years later.
There are other versions on You Tube, with Paul and Cilla, but the only one I could find with Paul alone didn’t have the clear sound of this tape.
Enjoy!”

    Fantastic. Thanks for sharing

The version on bootlegs was also on Anthology 3, Disc 1, as well as the White Album Deluxe Edition.

  3. That’s fantastic. I love this amazing song — what extraordinary chords! And Paul performing it so well is wonderful to hear. I wish a good quality copy of this version had been included on Anthology 3 or the Deluxe White Album. Its inclusion would have been as valid as including the demo of Come And Get It.

The percussive sound is him rapping on his acoustic guitar, not his knees.

Takes you 2 1/2 months to finally update this forum and its BLdb that gives you your story…pitiful!

    Stick to Fakebook, Roger

It’s not a forum, it’s a blog. And I use whichever source available for stories I post. I found this story important enough to break my silence on this blog. I have also been ill and hospitalised, so this blog has taken a back seat, having concentrated blogging in Norwegian over at http://www.norwegianwood.org

The problem with Trolls is they still post on things they don’t like, which I don’t understand, weird behaviour! Hope you are better Roger, keep up the good work, I am a fan of this board!

Get well soon, Roger. You work is massively appreciated.

        • James Peet says:

I heartily second James’ appreciation of your work, Roger. Some people don’t appreciate that people running a website or blog or whatever, have lives and do things that don’t actually require a device or need to be posted in any shape or form.

Once more, thank you, Roger for your hard work in bringing to our attention information that we otherwise wouldn’t have heard of.

I hope you’re health is improved and that you know you’re valued by us Fabheads.

By the way Roger….Your restrained, polite and factual reply above is an example to all who post messages on public spaces on the internet.
