Beatles 1 mystery solved

    Great!

  2. Martin says:

Hope it's not just the promos for the tracks on '1' (as some of them don't even have any: Eight Days A Week for a start). I do hope the likes of 'Rain' 'Hey Bulldog' 'Strawberry Fields Forever' and 'Revolution' are also included. I also hope 'Penny Lane' has been cleaned up. The most recent colour version looked washed and blurry to me.

I also hope that some sort of DVD compilation of the Stones in their 60s pomp will come out at some point. Fat chance though, eh?

If the first disc is 110 minutes, it alone is 30 minutes longer than the cd. So there mut be something extra. And what the second disc contains is another story completely. Exciting times.

I'm dying to know what's on the BluRay/DVD!

  6. Lizzie Bravo says:

Thank you for the info, Roger! Keep up the good work on this amazing blog. Regards from Rio de Janeiro.

I've been waiting for something approaching this since 1984, when I first saw the Compleat Beatles video documentary. Thank god I haven't died yet.

My fellow eternal Beatlemaniacs…Can we expect anything new? Of course not….They are the same songs remixed in a little different way. We keep making richer some producers that get over our hunger for Beatles material… I expected a 2-3 album with a blue background to resemble their greatest hits, which included songs that never were a number one hit but were even better like for instance A Day in life and Strawberry Fields, but then again we have those records since we wore young person's clothes. Than be said ( or written) make no mistake…BEATLES FOREVER!!!

  10. Martin says:

Thanks for the excellent info as always, Roger.
This is great news for Fabs fans. I wonder if there is an alternate video for 'I Am The Walrus' featuring MMT outtakes (like our friends at Revolver TV showed us recently)?

No 'Let It Be'or 'The Long And Winding Road' on the '1' DVD also bodes well. Does this mean that Let It Be on DVD is also finally imminent?

  11. Random Thoughts and Musings says:

Thanks for the detailed summary, Roger.

Sounds like a great package. It would be real nice, however, if the 2-DVD set were sold separately. Most Beatles fans own several version of the 27 number ones.

  12. Martin says:

Of course 'Let It Be' and '…Winding Road' are on the first disc, my mistake. That flash animation 'Come Together' looked daft even in 2000 when it was made though. Wouldn't a Rock Band type animation (like the game's intro or outro) or a mix of 1969 era footage (Tittenhurst etc) been better?

And instead of the Yellow Sub footage, what about this for 'Eleanor Rigby?'

So what's missing? And wow, remixes by Giles Martin. Has the damn broke? First Paul remixes 'Tug' now it's all this? 🙂

  15. Martin says:

What's missing? Maybe 'This Boy' 'She's A Woman' 'I'm A Loser' and some Ready Steady Go stuff ('I'll Get You' etc)… Still, it's a minor quibble. I'm just glad it's finally going to be out there. I think they've realised (Paul and Ringo) that they're not getting any younger and that maybe they would like their work to come out on their watch. I hope 'Let It Be' follows next year.

  16. Overmarsanelka says:

The original Don't Let Me Down promo, utilising footage from both Twickenham and the Apple Rooftop, shown on The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour in 1969 is missing.

One of the three Hey Jude promos is absent, with Apple releasing two complete ones and another consisting of two takes.

  17. winston o´boogie says:

    FANTASTIC. I'm shocked.

  18. dmz says:

But nothing regarding the "Old Brown Shoe" video, 'leaked' last week. (Still wondering if it's a fantastic fake or the real thing.)

  19. Martin says:

Does anyone know where the psychedelic film of the Pepper era Beatles to 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds', from The Compleat Beatles, film was from? Was it made specifically for the movie or was it a full promo? It's at the 5.25 mark in the clip below:

Also, wasn't 'For You Blue' a Double A Side with 'The Long And Winding Road' when it was No.1 in the US?

  20. Brian Fried says:

1+ isn't up for order in Canada yet. 🙁

  21. CrackinThunder says:

Nice to finally have it before we are all dead of old age!!! We'll have to turn it up to comp for some of our bad hearing…..Now, if Let It Be hits the street next year, that would be fantastic.

  22. LetEmOut says:

I do love it when they show "Restored" vs "Original" comparisons. Anyone who works in the industry will tell you that correcting the washed out colour on an old video takes one click of a mouse! You can do the same at home using Photoshop on still photographs. Looks very nice though – 2 x blu-ray in the basket.

  23. peerke says:

Here's something I don't get: when new mixes are made of the songs, how can one then make a remaster? Isn't that simply a master of the new mixes?

  24. Andrew says:

Hopefully some more information will come to light on how much work was done on the videos back when Anthology was being made (and also the Red/Blue promos). Additionally what new/better material came to light since then.

Hopefully we will also get some Easter Eggs on the discs (hint, hint!)

  25. Real Quaid says:

Oh man, new stereo mixes I didn't expect. Finally.

  26. Martin says:

Sort of connected to The Beatles (Wilfrid Brambell played Granddad McCartney in A Hard Day's Night), This clever gentleman has shown what a restored version of the legendary Steptoe & Son might look like… Unfortunately the BBC can't be bothered withpreserving the treasures they have still got (and haven't wiped) and prefer to spend their/our money on garbage like Strictly Come Dancing… It's a good job that Apple has more love and care for the Beatles legacy…

  27. Martin says:

I remember seeing a film for 'Don't Let Me Down.' It looked like John was in Twickenham and his beard was starting to grow. I also (fondly) recall Pan's People dancing to the 1976 release of 'Back In The USSR' on Top Of The Pops. But that's another story….

  28. Martin says:

Looks like 'The Long And Winding Road' promo will be the movie one featuring Billy Preston. Has their ever been an official promo for the 'Spectorised' version?

  29. Martin says:

I presume the 'HELP!' promo will be the Intertel one with Ringo holding the umberella?
So that means the 'dartless' film intro version will be missing from '1'?
