Let It Be…Naked Again

LIBN was a real missed opportunity in my view. It was supposed to be the original band's-eye view of how the album should have been, less Spectorisation. What a chance to release not LIBN but "Get Back", with that staircase cover photo, just like it was originally conceived. That would have been the real 1969 package, had the project been seen through properly.

I'm still peeved that the movie won't be released anytime soon..

For Ringo to comment publically that it would 'tarnish' the band's image is total ca-ca. I'm thinkin' it's yet another revenue source to be cleaned up/packaged in a few years, like MMT was. It's just timing.

"What's yet to tarnish…???" With all the historical comments back-forth with Paul, Yoko, Ringo, etc over the decades.. something like this movie release really won't have an impact on 'the legend' itself at all.

I still suspect the definitive LIB 'deluxe boxset' will have its day.

Unfortunately, these days' it's all business.

    Disagree, Popper.

The "Get Back" cover is now associated with 1967-1970.

And, more importantly, doing the original Get Back would take too much out of Anthology 3 (where "Teddy Boy" was along with the unaltered "Dig A Pony") so close to it — especially when that could be held for a later release to match the Let It Be DVD.

Rumour has it that Let It Be on DVD has been pushed back. It's likely to me that 2013 will see the release of a special Beatles product (maybe First US Visit on Blu) followed by a 2014 special edition of AHDN and/or some live performance.

As much as I like LIBN, I wish they had left the talking and goofy bits in. Those weren't Spectorized. I have a bootleg of one of the original pre-Spector mixes and that's my favorite LIB so far.

The AHDN film is not owned by The Beatles, so I doubt it features in their plans.

When I was suggesting "Get Back" I didn't mean the original version (Glyn Johns mix, was it?). I meant LIBN, as it came out – just with a different cover. I know what you mean about the 1967-70 LP, but Please Please Me has the earlier photo on – and making Get Back match would be a perfect way to bookend the band's career.

I'd also like to see "A Doll's House" with the original cover art (even though it was pinched for the Beatles Ballads LP).

    Brian,

Where did you hear the rumour about the release date for 'Let it be' DVD being pushed back?

    Tony.
