Calendars 2022

The 2022 official Beatles calendar from Danilo.

You know the end of the year is nigh when next year’s calendars start appearing. Only the one from the company Danilo is branded as the official one, recommended by The Beatles. The 2022 edition features black and white photos, cut out from their original backgrounds and placed on colourful bars.

However, Danilo also publishes a “Collector’s Edition” Beatles calendar. Is it perhaps a clue to a new direction?

Will the main Beatles product from The Beatles in 2022 be a remixed “Rubber Soul” album? The calendar certainly can be a clue to this, because take a look at Danilo’s 2021 calendar, published in late summer 2020:

Not surprisingly, the Danilo calendar of 2021 tied in quite nicely with the product that was in the works.

Here are some of the calendar pages from the collector’s edition Beatles 2022 calendar from Danilo:

January: The Beatles rehearse for their final “Thank Your Lucky Stars” appearance on 28th March 1965, at Alpha Television Studios in Aston, Birmingham, England.

March: John Lennon finally passed his driver’s test on February 15, 1965. A photo opportunity for the press is staged and John is for the occasion depicted in George Martin’s Triumph Herald Convertible.

July: The photo is from the 25th of November on the set of the promotional film for “We Can Work It Out”.

So, all the photos are from 1965. That last photo also adorned the fold out cover of the 2009 remastered “Rubber Soul” CD. Say no more!

While I am definitely looking forward to a Rubber Soul box set, I’m looking forward to a Revolver one about ten times as much. Revolver is when they started doing bounce downs and losing generations of tape. Revolver remixed would be far more revelatory than Rubber Soul. My only gripe about Rubber Soul is that the stereo balance is pretty poor. It’s probably my least favorite mixed album.

I really hope that «Rubber Soul» is next in line for the deluxe treatment.

As far as I recall, «Rubber Soul» was the only album that was remixed (by George Martin) when the CD’s were released in 1987, because the original stereo mix was not considered good enough. However, I have never been a big fan of the 1987 CD mix.

In 1999 we got two remixes on the «Yellow Submarine Songtrack»: «Think For Yourself» and «Nowhere Man». They sounded great, in my opinion. There was also some bits and pieces of «Rubber Soul» on «Love», and – again – they sounded better than the 1987 CD.

Imagine getting the original album in a fresh and balanced stereo remix (and, of course, a surround mix). I’m certainly up for it!

“Help!” was also remixed by Martin in 1987. The original stereo mixes of these albums are only available on CD as bonus tracks on their respective mono counterparts!
