Closing off Abbey Road a no no

A Beatles news item that is currently being reported in many mainstream media outlets (including the Daily Mail and The Mirror), is that director Sam Mendes has been refused permission by the Westminster Council to close off a part of Abbey Road to film the four actors in the upcoming Beatles films crossing the road.

We fully understand the refusal, this is a busy thoroughfare. The Beatles Rockband managed without closing the street when they made a commercial for the game in 2009.

UPDATE: Richard Porter informs us that according to the Daily Mail yesterday, filming will take place on Abbey Road after all. Actually there is a precedent for majot films to be shot there – including ‘The Parent Trap’ and ‘About Time’. On each occasion Abbey Road was closed for several hours. They event closed that section of the road when Porter had the mass crossings on the 40th and 50th anniversaries of The Beatles on the crossing.

Well, what with AI,..Green Screen etc etc, it shouldn’t even be necessary to close it off these days.

It’s is a busy thoroughfare! I’m surprised we don’t here about more accidents.

If the Beatles themselves didn’t get the road closed, then why should Sam Mendes get it done for him? These movie types, eh?

Also, it doesn’t look exactly the same as it did in August 1969 anyway. The markings on the road have changed, the cars (VW Beetle etc) are obviously long gone. So, it’d have to be tinkered with to make it look like 1969, even it it was filmed now.

Am I the only one who doesn’t care for this film?
