School gig CD bootleg

The school concert from Stowe which was discovered earlier this year, was handed over to the British Library where you can listen to the recording from a computer. But now someone seems to have managed to smuggle a recording of the concert out of the house, and in Japan it has been released on a double CD as “The Beatles School Gig”.

One CD reproduces the concert as it was, while CD 2 contains a version of the concert that has been demixed using artificial intelligence.

Samples in the form of mp3 files have started to appear on the internet, so it may not be long before it becomes available to those who visit the deep forums.

At this point, the pupil ran out of tape, but based on a set list written from memory by another one of the Stowe pupils, two more tracks were played: “Sweet Little Sixteen” and “Long Tall Sally”.

According to someone who listened to the recording at British Library, the original taper had recorded over most of “Money (That’s What I Want)” with the 7″ single “Surfin’ Bird” by the Trashmen! This cuts in near the end, about 30 secs into the Beatles playing “Money”. “Surfin’ Bird” starts, then ends, where we rejoin the concert with Paul’s between song chat introducing the final song, “I Saw Her Standing There”, which was already played earlier in the concert. On the CD, “Surfin’ Bird” is just removed.

It’s clear that many of the audience are familiar already with the “Please Please Me” LP, because there are lots of shouts for songs from it as requests – “There’s A Place”, “Twist & Shout”, “Chains” and “Do You Want to Know a Secret” all get shouted out. Someone even calls for “How Do You Do It” on a couple of occasions!

This is a must own and a must hear for me..a huge release of what seems to be one of the greatest Beatle set lists ever. Sadly no George songs due to his having I think a bit of throat that evening
